Series: Chip ‘N Dale: Rescue Rangers
Character: Dale | Dale Oakmont (fandom convention)
Age: 3 (Adult)
Timeline: Dale has experienced all of the events of the TV series and the 2010 comic.
Background:
Both Chip and Dale were hanging on the every word of Plato the police dog, his stories were both grandiose and rooted in truth. The chipmunks loved hearing them and tailed along whenever there was something afoot, and whenever Plato was on the case they were not far behind. By the time the duo formed the Rescue Rangers the police dog had retired, but the stories never stopped being told, this time they were writing their own.
Personality:
While his brother Chip takes a more methodical, no-nonsense approach to crime fighting, Dale would rather have fun and stop crime at the same time. He is excitable, happy-go-lucky, and fiercely loyal. Sometimes his silliness can get himself and the others of the Rescue Rangers in trouble, mostly due to his bumbling, overactive imagination, and dreams of being a great hero super-spy extraordinaire. Dale has soaring dreams of heroism; he wants to be a real hero like in the movies and the comics. He wants to do all the important hero stuff: defend the weak, pit himself against supervillains, and there's always the especially lofty goal of getting the girl. Ahh, a munk can dream... Dale does a lot of it!

As a Rescue Ranger, Dale is the wild card of the lineup. For the most part he is a doer and will gladly help his teammates in the plan of action. He chooses to remain lighthearted on the majority of cases to keep his team in high spirits, and the strangeness of the cases the Rangers have faced in the past are outrageous enough to warrant a sense of humor. He often waits until the team has fallen into a dire situation before springing a plan of action, and this will often be just unpredictable and crazy enough to work. While the show would portray Dale's mental faculties to be lacking, I have bought into a fan theory that he simply enjoys goofing around and feigning ignorance to crack a smile on the faces of his companions (more often than not this lands him a crack on the skull from Chip). He especially likes employing 'tactics' he has learned from comic books and emulating his favorite heroes.

As a personality, Dale is Chip's best friend, and the familiarity in which Dale disposes pet names to him would indicate that he could also be a sibling, too. He is a hyperactive specimen of a chipmunk, eager to please his teammates and especially eager to shower his fellow teammate Gadget with affections. He is more vocal and outwardly emotional than Chip. His tail is constantly moving and he chipmunk chatters when he is tense, excited, or the ever prevalent bickering with Chip. He shows his cheer frequently and often by wagging his tail or making happy chittering sounds (this has only ever been exhibited towards Chip). He enjoys loud music, sitting in front of the tube, and reading his favorite comic book series. He is especially fond of chocolate and peanuts (feed him a peanut butter cup and he will probably follow you around all day).

Dale is amiable when it comes to meeting others. Anyone who does give the little guy a chance will be rewarded with a rambunctious and endearing personality, a good humored friend through and through. He has a good heart and has always protect his allies under the ideals held in many comics and soaring adventure movies: no case of evil is too great or too small for the power of good; everyone could use a hero to believe in.

All the headcanon you ever wanted is offered as an external link here.

Abilities/Additional Notes: Dale is tiny, standing on his two feet barely clear him for the three inch mark. Standard chipmunk abilities include a keen sense of sight and hearing, as well as the ability to climb any surface that he can hold onto. He can leap farther and close greater distances than a human being can for his size and if he drops to his fours, he can really move. Dale’s sense of smell is outstanding and gives him an incredible capacity for tracking and scouting. Other than these abilities he is rather average, but he will use his abilities to help someone who appears to be in need.
Like all chipmunks he is fond of tree nuts, and he also has a sweet penchant for chocolate confectionery. He learned American Sign Language through communication with Gadget's friend Mouseo. Dale also taught himself gentleman's fencing, probably first sparked by reading comics or television which he loves to do in his spare time.

3Step Communicator: Barbie toy phone that actually functions as a smartphone.

Has anyone seen a suspicious character in the southeast quadrant lately? Been a regular presence every night at sundown, about 5:30? I might have even caught them on morning patrol, kinda shifty? They keep leaving weird messages in th’ dirt too, like ‘I could go for a pizza’ and ‘I’m so bored’..
[There was the faintest hint of a snicker as Dale broadcast on the network.] Oh wait. I wrote those to myself.

Anyone want to keep me company? Not a whole lot happenin’ on patrol right now.

Sample RP: Tackykajay? Takikage? No, wait- it's Takakage!

As they hurried along to the next group of doors many yards away, Dale silently and discretely considered his beautiful friend and teammate from the corner of his eye. Even in so gloomy
a situation as this, he couldn't keep his emotions for her from surfacing, if only for a moment as he enjoyed the sensation of her touch with her hand in his. He so admired everything about
her. Her beauty, grace, and compassion, and equally as much, her intelligence, determination and cunning. All unmatched by any girl he had ever known. Not even Foxglove who was quite special
in all those ways could quite equal her. He often wondered if he would ever get his courage up enough to tell her that he loved her.....as he often wondered as well with a touch of longing, if
she would ever consider him anything more than just a friend.

Rescue Ranger Headquarters

This unassuming oak in the park is the home to the base of operations to the Rescue Rangers. It features a hangar where the Ranger flying vehicles are on standby. Also available to the Rangers is a common room, a workout room, and Gadget's workshop (not pictured).

More screencaptures to follow as soon as I get around to fixing these haphazard screens. :x

Name: Dale | Dale Oakmont (fandom convention)
From: Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers
Appearance:

Age: His age isn't specified in the canon. Rescue Rangers aired in 1989, so I often picture him in his late 20s.
Gender: Male

Personality: As a Rescue Ranger, Dale is the wild card of the lineup.

As a character, Dale is Chip's best friend, and the familiarity in which Dale disposes pet names to him would indicate that he could also be a sibling, too. He is a hyperactive specimen of a chipmunk, eager to please his teammates and especially eager to shower his fellow teammate Gadget with affections. He is more vocal and outwardly emotional than Chip. His tail is constantly moving and he chipmunk chatters when he is nervous, excited, or cheerful. If he was a superhero he would be the lovable sidekick. He enjoys loud music, sitting in front of the tube, and reading his favorite comic book series. He is especially fond of chocolate and peanuts (feed him a peanut butter cup and he will probably follow you around all day). A bonk on the head can make him a little forgetful but his friendliness more than makes up for any lost ground. He is a kind hearted fellow who loves to have fun and spend time with other people who enjoy having fun.

Backstory: I am retrieving Dale from the canon point of post series.

Ranger Dale, as with Classic Disney Dale, does not have a clearly established backstory. His only known friend and/or family is Chip, who is his best friend. Headcanon-wise, Chip appears to be a guardian or a family friend of Dale, probably meeting at an early age. It is very possible that Dale is the youngest as he is the most like a little brother of the two.

Before the formation of the Rangers, Chip and Dale went on their own little adventures taking form as seeking thrills. They are first seen in the pilot episode testing out what would become a Ranger glider - the paper airplane. Their acquaintance in a police dog named Plato led them to hearing stories of his work on the force, and even a car chase or two. Tailing him in hot pursuit of a villain eventually involved them in a plot arc concerning a stolen ruby, Plato's detective partner being retained as a suspect, and traveling to the Arctic and back to clear the detective's name. At the conclusion of the case, the chipmunks were gifted with an honorary police badge and their very own team of crime fighters, the titular Rescue Rangers.

(Supplementary wiki article)

Moral Standing: Good.
Dreams: Dale has soaring dreams of heroism; he wants to be a real hero like in the movies and the comics. He wants to do all the important hero stuff: defend the weak, pit himself against supervillains, and there's always the especially lofty goal of getting the girl. (Episode 47) More realistically, he wants to be beloved and wanted. He is happiest at his best friend's side, or in the company of those who love him.
Fears: He fears rejection or being alone, in cases where he was separated from the other Rangers he wanders about in confusion, which led to his temporary brainwashing into being an enemy of the Rangers. (Episode 54) He appears to dread flying in the Ranger plane with Gadget behind the wheel the first few times that the Rangers take a ride in it. Of course, Dale is still a chipmunk, so fear of natural predators still applies. He is generally weary at first of anyone bigger than him who isn't a friend or acquaintance.
Extra: Dale uses a lot of contractions in his speech, which is evident in his voice samples.
He is also very small; his height when standing totals four inches and likely weighs 21g at most.
Character Location: I would like to petition for bringing Rescue Ranger Headquarters if space permits.
Samples: Operas and Theme Songs
Writing Sample: (reusing older sample because I'm a stinker.)
At long last, they were alone together. Dale had been away on Ranger duty well into the twilight and the relief was evident on his face that she was missed. She found herself caught in Dale's embrace, his tail wagging all the while. The joy melted her to her core. To her delight, he began to unwrap her one article of clothing at a time. He was ecstatic as their gazes met, swimming deeply into mutual warmth in each other's company, and irresistably she could not seem to help reflecting his own eagerness back at him. An especially adorable nuzzle came from Dale in the form of an eskimo kiss, and he drank in her sweet fragrance. They had released themselves from their dayclothes and were truly happy. They met in bare velvety touch, finally they could reap the rewards of their love...
Suddenly Chip was standing there in the doorway. The rapturous gazes Dale and her had exchanged were ripped from them. She was silent, Dale was stunned, and Chip blinked briefly, unable to place his emotions for a moment. The ambience of the room shifted immediately to Chip's riotous laughing. "Came in here to get some sugar, eh Dale?" Chip was doubled over in uncontrollable amusement. Dale in his nightclothes had unraveled a bar of Almond Joy and was now clutching onto Joy very protectively. "What? I was hungry." With that he tucked the bar away, later precious little bar of Joy!

Background: http://rangerwiki.net/index.php?title=Dale

Changes from canon, if AU: Dale has only been in Paradise a short time, but the nature of his surroundings being riddled with war and death, has caused him to evaluate his role more, as a Ranger and as a whole. When he arrived the city was generally lawless, with the remnants of the existing police force in hiding and functioning separately from the police station establishment which had been taken hostage as a torture chamber for the 'god' overseeing the city. Standing strong with his Ranger mentality at heart, he has found himself trying to fill Chip's shoes at times, and Gadget's as well, in being brave and resourceful for his new allies and friends. Dale hasn't been afforded too much time to be his own goofy self but it peeks through often, in an effort to cheer his allies and give them companionship, between battles that he chooses to engage in to assist his friends and provide a distraction (just about all he is capable of). He has become the unofficial teddy bear of Paradise.

Personality: As a Rescue Ranger, Dale is the wild card of the lineup. For the most part he is a doer and will gladly help his teammates in the plan of action. He chooses to remain lighthearted on the majority of cases to keep his team in high spirits, and the strangeness of the cases the Rangers have faced in the past are outrageous enough to warrant a sense of humor. Abilities: Standard chipmunk abilities include a keen sense of smell and hearing, as well as the ability to climb any surface that he can hold onto. He can leap farther than a human being can for his size and if he drops to his fours, he can really move. Sometimes he opts for two legs but it is more like a waddle when he moves and is quite silly looking. Other than these abilities he is rather average, but he will use his abilities to help someone who appears to be in need.

Exhibit A: A thread between Dale and the RED Spy (Double Cross; there were two spies in Paradise at this time.) Fairly self explanatory, and in my opinion an extremely adorable thread.
Exhibit B: A thread involving Dale and Lambda (Tales series), as well as Edward Elric and Shadow (City of Heroes OC). Lambda is looking for his and Dale's friend when they encounter soldiers of the enemy. Lambda has uncontrollable powers and while Dale is trying to protect him becomes injured himself.
Exhibit C: Dale arrives at a local resistance meeting the police force and other parties are participating in. Dale received a super suit from a friend and wants to prove himself to others. A thread with Edward Elric.
Exhibit D: A shorter thread on [community profile] dear_mun. Between Dale and Beastboy (Teen Titans).

Just finished reading 'Death of a Comedian'.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/224653/1/Death-Of-A-Comedian

I don't recommend it if you have a predisposition to depression like I do, it is an angst-fest of a fic and about 85% comes from Dale who doesn't believe he is allowed to love anyone, even while he is staring terminal illness in the face.

This song reminded me of the fic.

Series: Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers
Character: Dale
Timeline: Post-series.
Personality: While his brother Chip takes a more methodical, no-nonsense approach to crime fighting, Dale would rather have fun and stop crime at the same time. He is crafty, happy-go-lucky, and wisecracking. Sometimes his silliness can get himself and the others in trouble, mostly due to his bumbling and fantastic dreams of being a great hero like in his favorite comics and television programs.

Characteristically, as a chipmunk, he is prone to fits of 'chipmunk chatter' when he is tense, fearful, or bickering with Chip. When cheerful or excited, he often shows it by wagging his tail or making a trademark chittering sound.

Dale is amiable when it comes to meeting others. He fares just fine when meeting rodents or others his size; but he is a bit more skittish when trying to make acquaintances with someone bigger than himself. At four inches tall, this size difference accounts for just about everyone, so more often than not he will seek out friends of his own size or observe a potential friend from a safe distance. Anyone who does give the little guy a chance will be rewarded with fierce loyalty, a rambunctious and endearing personality, and a good humored friend through and through.

After the events of the show, Dale has matured quite a bit. When his friends are in need, he has been able to suppress his nature to panic and take place as a leader or thinker in place of Chip and Gadget, respectively. When the situation is dire, he knows when to put all comic relief on the back burner and become just as resourceful as his friends. Considering all that the Rescue Rangers have been through, they have grown to be his family and he too has grown to be compassionate and eager to please, extending to anyone who needs a rescue. He has a good heart and has always adored the ideals held in many comics and soaring adventure movies: no case of evil is too great or too small for the power of good; everyone could use a hero to believe in.

Background: He is a co-founding member of the Rescue Rangers alongside his brother and best friend, Chip. The members also include Monterey Jack, a large rat with tremendous heart and strength; Zipper, Monty's house fly companion who is resourceful and quick to act like Monty; and Gadget, an extremely intelligent and kind-hearted ally over whom Dale and Chip vie for her affections.

The turning of many leaves back at their oak tree headquarters have brought many adventures to the Rangers over time. Dale has been in a space alien ship, undergone astronaut training, challenged a crocodile to a fencing duel, outfoxed pirates in the search for buried treasure, and pitted himself against a raging bull.

He has both been and played the role of: a superhero, a spy, a guerilla warrior, a vengeful apparition, a leprechaun, and participated in covert operations dressed as a lady-munk.

Pokemon: Plusle.
He will be wearing his favorite lucky star/hawaiian shirt in red and yellow.

Paired up with his bestest friend Chip(Minun) grants him increased fighting ability and bravado. He will cheer on his friends and give them a genuine Plusle display of sparks and joyful cries. Unlike his brother, while Minun's stats lean towards the defense Plusle will pack more of a punch due to his fondness of showy sparks and electrical techniques.

Personality Test
1. Have you ever blurted something out without thinking about the consequences first? More times than I can count.
2. Your friend has made a meal that tastes terrible. They ask, "How is it?" You say...?I'll try it, but I can't guarantee I'm going to like it. If it's a real doozy I'll let 'em know.
3. You fail miserably! Everyone found out, and they're disappointed in you... What do you do?I did!? Maybe they don't need me after all. I don't know, I need some time to think this over.
4. The phone's ringing! What do you do?Rescue Rangers, this is Dale.
5. Do you think that, no matter what, life goes on?Life goes on, and people still need a hero.
Sample RP: Well I'm wearing my shirt. I must still be me, right? These thoughts occurred to Dale as he woke up a Pokemon. He gave himself a scratch on the head at the novelty of this strange scenario, and created a little torrent of sparks in the process. He tried full out rubbing his cheeks as if trying to generate static electricity, and waddya know, electric sparks! This was too neat. Dale gave a cheerful chuckle as his paws met, crackling and sizzling. "ZAPPO! This is too neat!"

The song seemed appropriate for Dale's situation in Paradise. The AMV also happens to be FMA.

They blazed a trail I dare to run,
They built this world and I have come.
I need another, like a brother
for a crying shoulder.

This could be the last time
you will stand by my side
I can feel my soul it's bleeding
will you fly with me this evening?

Sample Journal Post:

[As the video feed showed up on the screen, Dale had not quite noticed it, as it seemed he had unknowingly prompted it while dialing any sort of number left in the directory of the phone. Soon realizing that the call he was making had went through, he posed the questions of who was there, why was he alone, if anyone could hear him...or at least, that's what it looked like in his body language and his mouthing. It all sounded like high-pitched chatter over the speaker. Ultimately, he realized in futility, most humans could not understand his small chipmunk voice, unless the listener happened to be a rodent, or another small creature.]

With a hesitant, defeated look gracing his features, he returned his gaze to the phone. He discovered the texting feature and composed a message, utilizing his entire body to work the keyboard where most would only need a hand.

Has anyone seen my friends? Whoever has my favorite shirt, take good care of it.

Tell my friends... I wish I didn't have to miss a day without them.

It seems I am the one in need of rescuing now.

[Shortly after he composed the text, he wiped a paw over the surface of his stark white bedclothes and shrugged towards the camera.
The rest of the video feed seemed to be a bit choppy. The video frequently cut to footage of Dale exploring the room while the phone captured a single vantage point, then jump to another cut of Dale making shadow puppets or showing off his parkour or fencing skills. As the video(s) went on, he looked a little less apprehensive and appeared to be more comfortable in his surroundings. At least he had a toy to play with.]

Sample RP:
The evening air was cool and crisp. The breeze rustled the leaves in such a fashion that it sounded like the tip of a rattlesnake's tail, and it howled as it tickled Dale's ears. He sat perched among the top branches of his oak tree home, his senses engaged, and his paws crouched and ready to spring into action. He could just smell the adventure unfolding! There wasn't quite anything as exciting to him as being the hero. Dale whispered to himself from his observatory position above the other Rangers, carrying a punching bag into the den for Monty's exercise routine.

"Ah ha! I've got you now, Sourpuss! Prepare to face my vengeance!" With that he descended rapidly through the tangled branches and overgrowth of leaves like a bullet, his rapidfire strides thudding against the trunk mirroring the sound of his own heart. He slipped and skated his way down effortlessly, grasping a leaf on the way down. He landed beside the window opening up into Gadget's workshop on the first floor, molding the leaf into a makeshift sword as he quietly witnessed his friends Monterey Jack and Chip situating the punching bag in the corner that was designated as the exercise room. Wearing a determined glint in his eyes, he vaulted through the window, waving the pointed leaf in a display of swordsmanship. "Your dark days with Missie here are numbered!"
As Dale darted back and forth, Monterey Jack heaved a hearty chuckle. "Oho! What have we here, palley? A challenger? Well I'll have you know this blighter can take a swing or two!" Monterey pantomimed his free arm, as his other arm supported the punching bag. He indulged Dale's game for now.

"EN GARDE, Sourpuss!" Dale proclaimed enthusiastically, pinning the dummy with the tip of his leaf-blade. They exchanged blows, or rather, Dale exchanged blows with his sword while Monterey grasped one of the poles for rigging the punching bag and jabbed playfully back at the chipmunk warrior. Chip was watching with his usual impatience at Dale's antics, until he was roped into Dale's arm as he passed. "Never fear, milady! Justice will be done this eve!" Chip sank his head into his free hand, and separated himself from Dale's hold, readjusting his fedora on his head. "Don't worry about me, worry about yourself." Chip said dryly, but while at first he told himself he had better things to do with his time, he managed to stay silently fond of Dale's fantastic roleplaying and it even began to appeal to him to join in the fun.

"You'll not best me!" Monterey said, doing his best to sound like a hardened villain. Steadily but surely, Monty was being forced back into the corner in which he came. "NO! Good will triumph, it will reign, it will succeed!" Dale said, the force of his words driving his swift hand with the sword, eventually leading to Monty losing his footing over some more rigging laying out on the ground. "WHOOPS!" Monty exclaimed before cushioning his fall onto the punching bag. "Hooray!" Dale replied cheerfully, first approaching Monterey to support him as he sat back up. Dale's tail wagged as he shook his opponent's hand. "Thanks little mate," Monty responded, "witnessing your sword skills, me laddie, is like taking that first bite of the very finest cheese." Dale's smile broadened at Monterey's comparison. He promptly was at Chip's side, bowing his head slightly and his sword in his arms. Chip entertained Dale by removing his fedora, and bowing also. He replaced his hat and rubbed Dale's ruff of hair affectionately. "C'mon," he said while masking a slight chuckle, "dinnertime for restless heroes and damsels alike."
